Note: MOTD utilities are Batch File utilities that are most commonly launched from Autoexec.bat as a Log In Greeting. They are listed here in their likely sequential order.

By default, the bootup process usually silently proceeds directly to a Command Prompt. However, it is good practice to include a MOTD as a part of the bootup process (even if all it does is announce the system clock time). If desired, the PCs system administrator could also include in the bootup process a (times-out to a default) menu at which a Log In choice (such as to enter credentials , or choose a custom system configuration) can be made.
