Magellan (ver 2.0) Commercial made Abandoned Freeware Lotus Magellan is a Textual User Interface File Search utility. Originally realeased with much fanfare, it failed due to the small size of mass storage devices. People who were meticulous about organization didn't need it, and those who did, didn't have enough data to require it. Today of course, with all the files people keep on their computers (music, photos, etc.), Magellan can be quite useful (in fact, the Windows XP "Search" feature is very similar to Magellan). This program has been updated to include all the extra viewers, samples (sample files were made by the program the viewer is emulating, and are intended to be tests for a viewer), and macro demos later offered by Lotus. You can now use a mouse if you start the program using "MGMOUSE.exe". I have also updated the quick startup batch file "MGFAST.BAT" to call "MGMOUSE.exe". There is no manual, but the program is quite intuative. First, the program will make an index of your drives so that it can search for files faster. It will also create a history file and an options file for internal use (these three files will be placed in the Magellan program directory). If you want to skip the index creation the first time you start Magellan, start the program using "MGFAST.BAT" (and I would suggest that at this time you also configure your program options). Magellan can sort files by various methods (sorting by Name is a good way to locate duplicate files). It can also use the index to try and intelligently sort files. Many file viewers are included so you can view the contents of your files (note that these are mostly for data files created by late 1980's programs). You can display the file paths on your drives in a Tree format. Finally, Magellan can be automated with Macros (see the "MGDEMO" directory for some examples).
