DESQview/X (ver 2.1) Abandonware Well here it is... DESQview/X is -THE- Graphical User Interface for DOS. With DESQview/X, you can graphically multi-window/multi-task virtually any DOS program, as well as run many of the programs residing on a remote computer (as if you were sitting at the controls of that actual computer). DESQview/X is both LAN and Internet aware. It is also backwards compatible with the older text-based Quarterdeck DESQview. Because DESQview/X was designed to support the X-Windows standard, it can interface with modern operating systems such as Macintosh OSX and Linux! Even Windows 3.x can be run as a virtual, shareable, window in DESQview/X. DESQview/X is intended to work with QEMM, and uses surprisingly minimal resources considering the features it offers. 4DOS is DESQview aware. DESQview/X quickly becama a popular windowing GUI at Universities and labs. However because of its ability to make DOS directly competetive with Windows, BeOS, OS/2, and other big name company products, DESQview/X was quickly purchased by a giant competetor, and then promply removed from the market. Never heard of DESQview? Well that was their plan, and they succeeded! file = dvx.zip ========== For those interested in learning more about DESQview/X, I have included a technical overview slideshow. Please note that this overview consists entirely of GIF files, so you don't need to worry about having a PDF viewer (just make sure you have an appropriate GIF viewer available). Enjoy. file = overview.zip -------------------- DESQview/X Companions (ver various) Freeware These useful companions are specifically designed to interface with the DESQview/X multitasking Graphical User Interface. Note that these companions have simply been gathered from the Internet, but have not been tested or configured. Therefore many of the archives contain source code and other extra stuff. Although useful in their own right, they are being offered as inspiration for people to write their own DESQview/X Companions. bbsctrl.zip = BBS Watchdog dclock.zip = Alarm Clock dvix.zip = DVI Previewer dvxtec.zip = Font Manager dvxtin.zip = Usenet Reader mpg20dvx.zip = MPG Player xcursr10.zip = Cursor Customizer xv.zip = Gif Viewer xv221exe.zip = Graphics Viewer file = apps.zip Also included is a listing of command line "switches" for several products offered by Quarterdeck. file = switches.txt ==================== DESQview (ver 2.8) Abandonware For owners of antique PCs, I am also including a version of the regular DESQview version 2.8 software (file = DV28.zip). Please note that the application and associated helpers were pulled from the Internet without further processing (such as, for example, changing folder names to an 8.3 format). All should work, but it will take some extracting and configuring. file = DV28.zip To help assist, I am offering the user manual from DV version 1. file = DVman.pdf
