This email program is a DOS POP3/SMTP email client, consisting 
of "Pegasus Mail" and an integrated WATTCP POP3/SMTP transport 
called "PMPOP".  It requires a NIC using a WATTCP packet driver, 
and you need to configure the WATTCP.CFG file with your IP 
address information.  

You must be able to create a directory of "C:\PMAIL".  You will 
also have to configure PMPOP with your POP3 and SMTP server 
information, by typing at the command line "pmpop -c".  To start 
the email client, type "pmail".  


NOTE: PMPOP will not work with modern SMTP servers, and thus should 
be substituted with Fred Macalls PMSMTP.

Pegasus Mail is an e-mail client that runs on computers using MS-DOS, PC-DOS 
or Microsoft Windows: by client, we mean that it interacts directly with the 
user, allowing mail to be sent, read, filed, printed and otherwise manipulated. 
Pegasus Mail for DOS is, as far as we are aware, the last DOS-based e-mail 
program that is still a fully-supported product in the year 2000.

Pegasus Mail can run on single computers, or local area networks - it has 
special support for Novell NetWare LANs that allow it to operate intuitively 
and with almost no maintenance. The program also supports multiple users on a 
single computer. Unlike the Windows versions of Pegasus Mail, the DOS version 
does not have built-in support for the Internet POP3, SMTP or IMAP protocols, 
because there is no standard TCP/IP interface for DOS-based computers. 
However, by adding our Mercury Mail Transport System as a mail server, you can 
provide fully-integrated centralized Internet e-mail services and mailing list 
management for your Pegasus Mail users.

Pegasus Mail for DOS - system requirements

Any version of MS-DOS or PC-DOS v5.0 or later, Windows 3.x, 95, 98, NT or 2000 
2MB disk space, plus whatever is required for mail storage 
520KB available DOS RAM at the time the program is run 


NOTE: Although Pegasus Mail is still being updated, this is the last 
version for DOS (but the company will unexpectedly still support it).
