IRCjr (ver Mar 31 2023) Freeware mTCP software requires that a PC/TCP Packet driver be first installed, or it will refuse to load. Some mTCP software (in particular SNTP) can also read the Time Zone [TZ] information from the Environment variable. IRCjr is a Textual IRC client for DOS. IRCjr is not however a replacement for a full featured graphical IRC client, as it lacks file transfer capabilities, multiple connections to different servers, etc.. Yet for simple text-based chatting on a single server with multiple channels, IRCjr does the job very well. CAUTION: Before running IRCjr, you must include IRCjr specific parameters to the configuration file. mTCP software uses the mTCP TCP/IP stack (-not- WATTCP). mTCP software reads its configuration settings from a regular text file, to which you add valid parameters. You need to add a MTCPCFG Environment variable that points to this configuration file (specifically naming the file means it does not have to be called MTCP.CFG). A sample of this file is included (see- "SAMPLE.CFG"). The Syntax is: Set MTCPCFG= Note: DHCP leases will expire, so you if you are using a dynamic (rather than static) IP address assignment, you need to periodically re-run DHCP to get a new lease. mTCP programs will check for DHCP expiration by reading the "TIMESTAMP" (second line) in the configuration file, and will refuse to run (and display an expired message) if the lease is expired. If you use a Static IP, you must remove (or comment-out with #) the TIMESTAMP line. TIP: Unicode can be enabled in IRCjr. Two example maps are included (cp437.txt and cp850.txt). If used, you need to set an Environment variable to the map file. The Syntax is: SET MTCP_UNICODE_MAP=
