Autodesk Animator Pro
(ver 1.3)
Commercial made Abandoned Freeware

Although there were other PC animation creation
programs at the time (such as PC Animate Plus),
and professional animators preferred to use the
Commodore Amiga to create their animations; the
Autodesk Animator none-the-less managed to glean
a significant following amongst cartoonists, even
though, like all early Autodesk software, the
interface can feel somewhat clunky.

The program is essentially a 2D "paint" program,
that lets you create frame-by-frame animation
(much like traditional cartoon cel animation).
The series of drawings are saved as an animated
*.FLC file (individual frames can be saved as a
*.GIF file, although the software can NOT create
animated GIF files), which can then be "played"
with a FLIC file viewer.

This version of Autodesk Animator Pro is a "fresh"
install. As such, it will give a warning the first
time it is started, that it is configured with the
default settings. Once the program starts, go to
the settings menu and set your preferences.

Note that the program was installed in the directory
"C:\APPS\ANI", so if you place the program in another
directory, you should change your path settings (by
default, the program creates and keeps its settings
in a changeable directory "C:\PAAT"). The batch file
"PP.BAT", which is located in the PIXELPOP directory,
will also have to have its paths modified.

WARNING: Autodesk Animator Pro uses Phar Lap DPMI to
provide DOS Protected Mode access. This may conflict
with your DOS DPMI manager. It definately procludes
running the program from a Windows Commandline (you
CAN however run it from within the "DOSbox" program).
