MEMOIRS (ver 5.0) Abandoned Freeware MEMOIRS is marketed as a "Private Diary" program, whereby you can write a secret text file that no one else can read (it includes an optional text editor for your convenience). It also includes a bonus "Biorhythm" feature, but do NOT use this, as it is NOT Y2k compatible and now displays inaccurate data. In reality, MEMOIRS is a very nice cyptography program that is capable of password encrypting ASCII text files. The saved files (*.ENC extension suggested) are unreadable until you use MEMOIRS to later decode the file by using the files password. External text files can be encrypted, and decrypted data can be saved to external text files. An excellent use for MEMOIRS would be to encrypt a text file which you would then attach as the email message, rather than sending the email text message in the clear (naturally, the recipient would need to have MEMOIRS and know the password). WARNING: There is NO backdoor, so if you forget your case- sensitive password, you will NEVER be able to decrypt the encoded file. MEMOIRS is labeled as "shareware", and the author even infers that the software is NOT freeware. However, the author only suggested (did NOT require) that a "donation" be sent. Also, by registering (no longer possible), all you got was your name on his mailing list. This version is fully functional, and is the only version the author provided (registered users did NOT receive a different version that lacked the word "Shareware"). Therefore, this software is by definition Abandoned Freeware.
